The "Green Finger Sponge", or Iotrochota birotulata, belongs to the Porifera phylum. The sponge branches out into fingers and can divide into two branches over time. This sponge is found in the shallow waters of the Caribbean Sea. The branches are about 4 centimetres (1.6 in) in diameter and can grow to 50 centimetres (20 in) in length. It receives nutrients by capturing the food particles that flow through its pores. It contains toxins which deter predator fish from eating the sponge.
